Halloween might be the time of spooks and ghouls but in Pawnee, it?s bringing upon some change for our favourite government workers. Ron is still seeing Diane but has yet to warm up to her two daughters, and his inexperience with children surfaces during a round of trick-or-treating. During a city hall horror movie screening, Jerry suffers a mild heart attack which lands him in the hospital and prompts Leslie to hold a garage sale to help pay the hospital bills.

Despite all these things, perhaps the biggest change of them all is between Ben and Leslie. Ben is finally wrapping up his stint in D.C. and he and Leslie are about to lease a house together, but there?s a sudden change of plans when he?s approached to spearhead a campaign in Florida. The last few minutes of this episode were a doozy and all I can say is, ?Halloween Surprise? indeed!

City Hall is holding a horror movie screening and Donna is all over it, blowing up Twitter with her livetweeting. During the movie, Leslie gets a call from Ben and he explains the opportunity in Florida. Leslie is clearly crushed, as they?re ten days from moving in together but they insist they?ll discuss it. In an attempt to cheer her up, Ann suggest they scream ?BOO!? at Tom when he comes out of the washroom but instead of Tom, they catch Jerry and give him a good scare. Too good apparently, because soon enough he?s having a gas attack and clutching his chest and next thing you know, he?s in a hospital bed.

Ron and Andy are also celebrating Halloween by accompanying Diane and her two little princesses trick-or-treating. While Andy is playful since he?s a big kid himself, Ron is awkward and has no idea how to act around the girls. When Diane is called away for an emergency, they?re left in Ron?s care. Not a great move because when one of their tiaras breaks, Ron?s way of solving the problem is breaking the other?s tiara. There are many, many tears and Ron gets an infuriated Diane on the phone the next day.

At the garage sale, it looks like everyone has something to contribute: a desk (Ron), boxes of old boyfriends? possessions (Ann, who finally realizes she tends to adopt her boyfriend-of-the-moment?s personality), a Perd Hapley autobiography, autographed by Perd Hapley himself (Leslie). Ron gets a surprise visit from Diane, who gives him the chance to apologize but he?s oblivious and she walks away upset. Leslie notices they?re not making much money and gets so desperate that she starts to auction off an evening with Ann. Ann bids a million dollars on herself and runs for it when a skeevy looking guy in a wifebeater is about to win the auction. Despite the low sales, Tom may have just come up with a business idea when he agrees to rent his scorpion jacket to a teenager. You never know, ?Rent A Swag? might just be the new Entertainment 720!

All in all, Leslie?s garage sale makes just over $1000 and she?s disappointed by the numbers but Jerry seems grateful and in good spirits. Ron takes some flowers and chocolates over to Diane?s place and apologizes for being so horrible. He might be new at this, but she is straight with him, saying she and her children are a package deal. Who knows, this might just work?

The meeting with the Florida candidate went swimmingly and now Ben sits in his D.C. office with a lot to consider. Jennifer Barkley (remember her?) tells him he?s ready for it and he should think about his future. Back in Pawnee the next day, Leslie meets at her would-be house with the realtor but gets the shock of her life when she sees Ben standing near the fireplace. I think we all got the shock of our lives when we saw Ben get down on one knee and propose, which Leslie happily accepted.

What did you think of this episode? I wasn?t expecting that last scene at all! The engagement was just a matter of time and even though it?s a huge step for the show, I?m thrilled to see where they take this. Share your TwoCents below!
